SUKA Climate and Environmental Advisor is the main regional focal point for OCG Planetary Health ambitions and the responsible of the Planetary health pillar in SUKA. He/she provides support to the missions in the region to plan, implement and monitor objectives contained in OCG Climate and Environmental Roadmap and aiming at reducing the environmental impact of the missions. He/she drives the launch of new initiatives related to OCG planetary health ambitions in the region. He/she ensures a transversal approach through existing technical support (Regional Technical Support (RTS), etc.) being a facilitator between all actors already invested in the topic.
Conduct environmental assessments of missions with coordination teams and RTS to identify areas for improvement: analyze environmental impacts, assess compliance with national laws (waste, energy, etc.), gather information on national climate strategies in the health sector, and identify key stakeholders who could support MSF in reducing its environmental footprint.
Plan with coordination teams and RTS (SUKA) an action plan to reduce environmental impact: define key activities (procurement, medical, fleet, energy, construction, travel, waste, office), estimate needed HR and financial resources, identify indicators and data collection methods, assign responsibilities, and set timelines.
Support implementation of the plan through staff awareness, behavior change campaigns, engagement of stakeholders, and technical environmental support.
Monitor progress using environmental KPIs: compile data into existing databases, produce bi-annual reports, and propose monitoring improvements.
