To fulfill its mission of assistance to victims of conflicts, epidemics or natural disasters, MSF-Switzerland has created an Emergency Pool, of which members are experienced individuals capable of evaluating a situation, opening and coordinating projects.
The candidate is expected to
· work in all contexts managed by the Emergency Cell
· have the flexibility to work in different positions depending on his/her profile
· work in emergency contexts with regular Cells and fill gaps in regular projects if needed.
All countries where the Emergency Cell opens activities, which require an urgent response. On call, the Emergency Energy technical Referent should be available within 48 hours for rapid and short interventions. He/she is part of a core group of medicals, para-medicals and support staff responsible for responding to:
· epidemics
· nutritional crises
· displaced populations and/or refugees’ camps
· conflict contexts
· natural disasters
· exploratory missions
· Short gaps filling in the field on regular missions
Tasks
Planning, establishing and reviewing the electrical activities in the emergency mission/project,
Monitoring and ensuring the implementation of the electrical activity in the project ensuring compliance to MSF standards, protocols and procedures, and reporting to the Project Coordinator/Logistics Coordinator on the development of the ongoing programmes.
Identifying, defining and implementing solutions and strategies that reduce the environmental footprint of the electrical installations (and HVAC if relevant) in the mission/projects. These strategies englobe not only technical solutions but also how the electrical installations are used, maintained and managed. The main objective of reducing the environ-mental footprint entails energy efficiency, reducing the carbon dioxide emissions, a proper waste management and the use of sustainable and adapted solutions according to the context
· 18 months of Energy field experience with MSF with at least one mission in an emergency context with MSF Switzerland.
· Or International staff from other humanitarian organizations, with 24 months of field experience in emergency contexts in an Energy role, who have carried out at least one mission in an emergency context with MSF Switzerland.
· Capacity to quickly evaluate an emergency situation on ground and to propose an appropriate Energy strategy
· General knowledge of MSF in emergency management.
· Knowledge of basics in logistics to work as an Emergency filed logistician if required
Requirements
· Good command of project management, HR management, supply and training-related knowledge in MSF
· Good knowledge of MSF Electrical Standards and technics in the area of people safety, equipment protection, service continuity and cost/environmental efficiency.
· Experience in renewable energies, energy efficiency et sustainable energy design is an asset
· Experience in electric backup is an asset (generator, UPS, …)
· Experience in HVAC and solar installations is an asset
· A good understanding of sustainable building design (alt. low energy building design, energy efficient building design, or passive construction energy systems) and insulation techniques is an asset.
· A flexible and solution-oriented mentality and the ability to be decisive in chaotic circumstances,
· Proven skills in negotiation, diplomacy and decision-making skills
· Proven capacity for coordination and organization
· Ability to prioritize work, manage teams and communicate clearly decisions
· Capacity to work in a volatile, insecure context and deal with stress

· Fluency in both French and English is essential
