Contextualisation of the overall Behaviour management and Prevention strategy:
Ensure, with the management and teams, the design implementation and follow-up of a behavior management and prevention strategy adapted to the context, including mainly:
Context analysis related to barriers and fears to reporting in the mission.
Develop a risk assessment (by conducting necessary discussions with all stakeholders in the mission and communities to identify the main risks of abuse at the projects levels and mitigating measures.
Collaborate in a multidisciplinary way with key staff involved in preventing abuse of community and beneficiary members, including social workers and health promotion teams.
Build networks with community members and deepen understanding of the contexts regarding behavior, challenges,
Adaptation and implementation of the prevention strategy:
Based on the context analyis and risk assessment, develop a mission prevention strategy and priorities.
Advise on the implementation of MSF complaint procedures and facilitate their understanding by all staff, partners and community members.
Support the mission in establishing sustainable communication channels on the matter with each project and communities.
Support the mission management about their role in creating and maintaining a safe working environment for all staff, patients, partners and communities.
Identify and implement with relevant teams good practice and risk mitigation in all MSF activites medical, logistics, supply, HR
Raise awareness about how to welcome a complainant in a sensitive and adapted manner to complaints of abuse, including where to refer complainants (complaint and adapted psycho-social and medical support mechanisms).
Build strong partnerships with other humanitarian actors, local authorities, and communities to strengthen collective efforts against abuse and corruption. The coordinator will also work closely with partner organizations to align protection strategies.
Monitoring and supervision
Conduct regular visits to projects and ensure close support and training of Behaviour Focal point activities at project level.
Design and deliver regular training workshops for LHS and IMS teams on abuse prevention and inappropriate behavior. Raise awareness on safeguarding policies, beneficiaries’ rights, and reporting mechanisms. The Safeguarding coordinator/advisor will also be responsible for continuously updating training materials and ensuring they are adapted to the local context.
Depending on the activities and needs of the project, your responsibilities may be adapted and evolve according to the specificities of each mission.
The Safeguarding Coordinator plays a key role in helping MSF create a safer, more respectful working environment for everyone staff, patients, and communities. The main focus of the role is to work closely with senior management and teams to put MSF’s Behavioural Commitments into practice across the projects.
This includes preventing abuse of person, fraud, and corruption in our working and care environment, setting up safe and trusted reporting channels , and promoting a culture where people feel protected and heard.
The role is hands-on and practical combining context analysis, community engagement, direct support, the development of tools and processes, and building the capacity of teams to take safeguarding forward in their own contexts.
International MSF experience mandatory.
